Our publications

EDITORIAL ACTIVITIES AND SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATIONS

For over forty years, particular attention has been paid to this sector. From 1976 to today, several hundred volumes, chapters, extracts, scientific essays, abstracts have been published by various publishing houses and have appeared in university journals or national and international research institutes. These publications, mainly ornithological, herpetological and mammological and also linked to the study or protection of natural environments and marine fauna, are the result of field experiences or scientific research directly carried out by the Director Dr. Roberto Basso and by various work groups connected to him or operating within the National Association ARCA 113 Ecologico ODV (Association for Environmental Research and Conservation – Onlus). Furthermore, since 2008, a series dedicated to the great Italian animalier artists has been created, the "Arte e Natura" series, an editorial project, now in its seventh volume, which is also expanding through monographs of prominent figures in culture and natural or hunting sciences.
From 1982 to 1995, the publications had as their logistical base the Civic Museum of Natural History of Salento (LE); from 1995 to 2003 the Civic Museum of Natural History of the Po Delta (FE) and from 2003 to 2025 the Civic Museum of Natural History of Jesolo (VE).
For this continuous and demanding activity there have been numerous awards, including academic ones. To give a better idea, in the last thirty years it has been possible to publish thirty-four works concerning marine biology and more precisely the status of the Caretta caretta in the Mediterranean, in collaboration with the University of Rome La Sapienza, Department of Zoology and under the coordination and supervision of Prof. R. Argano, Dr. D. Fregi and Dr. P. Casale. These works have been presented in symposiums and conferences all over the world, as can be seen from the list below. The publications are the result of the processing of a considerable amount of unpublished data, which will continue to bring prestige to the Civic Museum of Jesolo and their authors in the coming years.
The areas where most observations or research have been carried out are:
- For the ornithological part, “the rice fields of Vercelli” in Piedmont; the territories on the Adriatic and Ionian coasts of the provinces of Brindisi, Taranto and Lecce in Puglia;
- For research on marine fauna and environments, the regions of Puglia, Basilicata, Calabria, Sicily, Veneto, Liguria and the archipelagos of the Tremiti and Pelagie Islands. In these geographical contexts, over forty years of continuous research and data monitoring activities have been concentrated, especially on sea turtles and marine mammals, "cetaceans and monk seals".
